Andrea Gardner and Brit Bunkley are linked in their exploration of the animal kingdom and its relationship to humans and the landscape. The two Whanganui artists place these interests within the context of eschatology – a part of theology related to judgement, death or destiny.
Andrea Gardner is a US-born photographer and sculptor, who’s called Whanganui home since 1995. She is interested in romantic notions of the ‘picturesque’ and how this relates to environmental concerns. Her work is held across numerous public collections throughout New Zealand.
Brit Bunkley works across sculpture and 3D modelling, video, and image editing programs. While focusing on existential anxieties and apocalyptic fears, his work introduces elements of whimsy and irony. He is also represented in public collections, and has been the recipient of many awards and fellowships.
