Lang Ea’s work intertwines her complex, personal history with an innovative vision, resulting in multimedia art that is diverse and complex. Lang typically deals with large-scale site-specific sculpture, so that the work nestles into and relates with its environment, but remains poignant and compelling.
Though Lang has called New Zealand home since 1982, she was born in Cambodia. She and her family fled to Thailand in 1979 following the fall of Khmer Rouge. Lang injects this emotional journey and the dark and affecting history of war into her work, which at the same time suggests positivity with a sense of contemplation and hopefulness.
