Jamie Pickernell
Jamie Pickernell graduated with a degree in fine art, majoring in sculpture, from Whanganui’s Taupo Quay School of Fine Art in 1996, and has been a full-time maker ever since. He has a passion for steel, stone and wood. While constantly challenging his ability in these mediums, Jamie enjoys producing interesting combinations to create his unique and playful works. Jamie’s healthy ‘can-do’ attitude has led him to many interesting collaborations and commissions in the disciplines of sculpture, architectural hardware and furniture.

Noticing the wide biodiversity of Aotearoa New Zealand after a trip through Europe, Jamie Pickernell’s work All Bugged Up is a reminder and celebration of the wonderful matrix of life in our backyards. From insects and bird life to the harder-to-spot skinks and geckos, nature is perhaps the most important thing to honour and preserve.
For the love of stones, rocks and mother earth.
For the love of creepy crawlies, bugs and spiders,
invertebrates the lot.
For the love of scalies, lizards, skinks and snakes.
For the love of the jump, the clamber and the fall,
the scraps and scratches laughter and tears.
For the ever-present moment free of past laments and future concerns,
I’m here for you all bugged up, let’s ride.
